DAY 3

In February 2023 the Essex CTC introduced to clinical practice a next generation Heart Lung Machine. This machine offers features that are above and beyond the functionality of our previous fleet of machines. This includes in line gas monitoring, integrated Vacuum Assist Device, integrated blood sensors and flow probes.

Additionally arterial and venous variable occluders enable innovative modes to be offered including an Initiation Mode, Weaning Mode and Circulatory Arrest Mode. The presentation will describe these modes and outline which modes the department have adopted into their clinical practice.

n introduction to a novel combined dual level detector will be given in this presentation.

After six months and nearly 500 cases the presentation will conclude with a summary of the experience of perfusionists at the Essex CTC over with the new machines, to date. On a broad note the increased automation and greater collection of data has not changed the need for the vigilance and skills of the perfusionist.
