I am honoured to welcome you all to the 'Back To Basics II' 2024 Spring webinar and the 50th SCPS AGM, where we will discuss our field's latest developments and solutions. As chair, I am privileged to preside over our seminars and discussions as we share knowledge and advance the practice of perfusion.
Throughout these two events, we will have the opportunity to hear from experts in the field, engage in stimulating discussions, and learn from one another's experiences. In addition, we will be able to achieve new insights and a deeper appreciation for the importance of our work.

I hope you find both of our events productive and rewarding.

Our members have dedicated themselves to improving patient care and outcomes through education, research, and innovation. We have seen remarkable advancements in perfusion techniques and technology, and our society has played a critical role in shaping the future of cardiovascular perfusion.
As we celebrate the achievements of the past 50 years, we also eagerly anticipate the future. The next 50 years hold boundless potential for the field of perfusion, and our society, with its unwavering commitment to progress and excellence, will continue to lead the way.

We are living in unprecedented times, which inevitably lead to unprecedented circumstances and difficult decisions. It is with great regret that I have to announce that this year’s Annual Congress of The Society of Clinical Perfusion Scientists will not be taking place in physical form. The decision has been taken by the executive committee after full discussion and careful consideration. We have a duty of care not only to you, our colleagues, but also to our patients. We feel that we cannot risk the possibility of causing an outbreak of Covid-19 within our professional group as this would not only endanger the health and welfare of us, but also potentially affect the capacity for cardiac surgery across Great Britain and Ireland.
We have moved the meeting online and are happy to invite you to our 2020 Webinar and AGM. We look forward to (virtually) seeing as many of you as possible over the 6th and 7th of November to enjoy a full academic programme and the Annual General Meetings of our Society and College.
